Heating

Phase 1

Flats are heated with either an underfloor or radiator heating system, depending on the flat's location in the building. Underfloor heating is (mainly) a feature of flats in Flank A.

Underfloor heating (where fitted)

Heating to the apartment is via underfloor heating. The heating medium is generated by the heating interface unit (HIU) (Images 1 & 2) located in the utility room or cupboard. Primary inlet heating from the Park Hill central heat exchanger is continuously available for use at the HIU. This primary heat, when required, passes through the heating plate heat exchanger within the HIU which heats the heating water that circulates through the underfloor heating system when required. Control of the underfloor heating is via room mounted programmable room thermostats (Image 3). All the main living areas have thermostats which offer “zone control”. When a zone of heating is called for under the dictates of the room thermostat this energises and opens up the corresponding actuator on the underfloor heating manifold to allow heating water to circulate around that underfloor heating zone. The pumps on the Underfloor heating manifold and within the HIU will also start.

When temperature within that heating zone is satisfied, the thermostat will de-energise the system.

Primary heating to the HIU from the Park Hill heat exchanger can be isolated by closing the valves with black tags detailing “District heating flow” & “District heating return”

Apartment heating from the HIU to the underfloor heating manifold can be isolated by closing valves with black tags detailing “Apartment heating flow” & “Apartment heating return”.

Notes

Images 5 & 6 show the valves to the HIU and the piping and valves for the under floor heating. Residents should not adjust these or tamper with them under any circumstances. In the event one of the systems failing refer to the guidance above and call out a qualified professional.

Radiator heating (where fitted)

Heating to the apartment is via a radiator heating system. The heating medium is generated by the heating interface unit (HIU) (Image 7) located in the utility room or cupboard. Primary inlet heating from the Park Hill central heat exchanger is continuously available for use at the HIU. This primary heat, when required passes through the heating plate exchanger within the HIU which heats the heating water that circulates through the radiators.

Control of the heating is via room mounted programmable room thermostats located in the living areas (Image 8). Radiators can be controlled by thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) (Image 9). For setting and operation of the programmable thermostat see the user guide.

When heating is called, the pumps on the heating manifold and within the HIU will start.

When temperature within the living space is satisfied the thermostat will stop demanding heating. Please note that the living space is designed to achieve 21 degrees Celsius and setting the demand above this temperature will result in higher running costs.

In the bathrooms there is an electric towel radiator (Image 10) which is controlled by the switch labelled ‘Towel Radiator’ (Image 11) next to the HIU. Please remember to turn the switch off when the radiator is no longer required as this will not happen automatically.

Phase 2

Heating to the apartment is via electric wall heaters and electric column radiators.

Hot water

Phase 1

Hot water is supplied to Phase 1 by Urban Splash (Park Hill) Limited, who source from Veolia. Switch2 is the company that manages the billing of this service on their behalf.

Hot water to appliances is generated through a second heat exchanger within the HIU. This is on a demand basis i.e. when a hot tap is opened then incoming cold water is heated to a set temperature to flow out of the tap. There will be a short time delay between opening an outlet for hot water and receiving hot water at the outlet.

To isolate hot water to the apartment use the stop cock as detailed below in notes.

Phase 2

The hot water cylinders and controls are located in the kitchen, hallway or bedrooms, depending on apartment type.

There is a secondary immersion (top) that will turn on when the hot water is in demand or needs to reheat the stored water quickly. Both these immersion heaters have pre-set thermostats so will automatically switch off when the water in the tank reaches the preset temperature.

Notes

Cold water

Cold water to the apartment is isolated via the stop cock located in the utility room or cupboard. This valve will isolate both hot and cold water to the whole apartment (Images 4 and 12).

Heating

Residents should not adjust or tamper with any valves under any circumstances. In the event one of the systems failing refer to the guidance above and call out a qualified professional.
